5. King of Boys 2: Though not a movie, KOB made it to our list. The Kemi Adetiba produced and directed film was and still is a great work of fiction. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated series of the year, it didn’t fall short of expectations, rather it built on the already established genius of Kemi. In the sequel to KOB1, the story still circles Eniola Salami as she proves once again that she is indeed the controller of the streets and yes, the King of Boys.  It stars Sola Sobowale, Akin Lewis, Toni Tones, Illbliss, Reminisce and new entrants such as Deyemi Okelanwon,  Charly Boy, Titi Kuti, Lord Frank, Nse Ikpe Etim, Richard Mofe Damijo, Dapo Banjo, Osas Ighodaro, Bimbo Manuel and Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett

4. ‘Sweet Girl’: A movie that shocked most of us with the ending. It’s about a man that went all out to avenge the death of his wife while at the same time trying to protect his only daughter- but in the end, it turned out he didn’t do the “avenging”.  It has an impressive cast- Jason Mamoa and Marisa Tomei, Manuel Garcia-Ruflo, Isabela Merced, Adria Arjona, Raza Jaffrey and others.

3. No Time to Die: Daniel Craig gave us an amazing performance as he bows out playing the character of Britain’s most decorated spy- James Bond, he even went out with a bang. What a movie! If you’ve not seen No Time to Die you are probably not a “die-hard” fan of the James Bond franchise. It also stars Léa Seydoux, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Naomi Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Jeffrey Wright and Ben Whishaw.

2. The Harder They Fall: Okay, something is going on right now regarding all African/black-themed movies or blacks playing significant characters. Cheers to the first all-black cast for a western movie- yes, a western. The Harder They Fall is a commendable attempt at hardcore guns blazing western with black actors. It’s about an outlaw who discovers that the man he’s been hunting down for years for killing his father is his older brother. Guess what, it samples an original soundtrack of the late Afrobeat Legend- Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The movie has a star-studded cast which includes- Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beets, Delroy Lindo, Regina King and other talented acts.

1. Fatherhood: You didn’t think we’d end the list without a teary drama right? Think again. Hehehe… In Fatherhood, Kevin Hart shows us a side we didn’t quite know he could. Here he plays a serious and almost not-so-funny character, you could say he’s a regular guy. The movie shares light on the life of Mathew Longelin who despite all odds, raises his daughter alone following the unexpected death of his wife a day after she was born. It features Anthony Carrigan, Melody Hurd, Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, Deborah Ayorinde, Frankie Faison and DeWanda Wise.
