OPINION: How I found Anime during Lockdown

The year 2020 is gradually easing out, I know right? You just can’t wait to be done with it, you’re not the only one. The year wasn’t what many of us expected, but in all, we’re still here, moving forward.

I discovered a lot this year, especially during the almost 6 months lockdown. I never knew I could stay in my house for such a long time (it wasn’t easy mehn, but I tried). One of the gifts I discovered was Anime. Yes, Anime! It wasn’t something I thought I’d like, I didn’t even know many cartoon lovers in this part of the world enjoyed the Japanese/Chinese cartoon creations. So it was kind of strange seeing some of my friends talk about Anime series they’ve watched with so much zest. I had to mention it to a few of them, I never knew the genre was that popular.

My cousin introduced me to an awesome world of colours and entertaining plots, he persuaded me to see a few episodes of the Anime he was watching then and when I did, that was it for me. I ended up binge-watching about 4 different series. The stories are different, almost perfectly told, rich and highly engaging. The graphics are so cool, even though many are 2D formats, it’s usually appealing. I want to believe we have Anime lovers here in our community at Bonggis, so I’ll drop names of the series that kept me company during the lockdown.

1) One Punch Man: A Japanese superhero franchise, the story follows Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch. With his amazing strength, Saitama seeks a worthy villain to fight as he was growing bored because no one could match his power. One Punch Man was created by Manga/Anime specialist, ONE.

2) My Hero Academia: My Hero Academia is a Japanese superhero manga/Anime. It’s about the life of Izuku Midoriya who went without having any superhuman abilities, to being the most successful superhero ever.

3) Vinland: Vinland Saga is set mostly in 1013 AD England moving forward, which has been mostly conquered by the Danish King Sweyn Forkbeard. It’s about the battle for rulership by Sweyn’s sons, Prince Harald and Prince Canute, and how the son of an ex Danish soldier Thorfinn was caught in the middle of it all.

4) Mob Psycho 100: Another Japanese Anime created by ONE. The story is about Shigeo Kageyama also known as Mob. On the surface, Mob is just an average middle school boy but underneath his ordinary look, he is a powerful esper with immense psychic power and he can defeat any demon with just a single thought.

These are the Animes I saw during the lockdown and I’m still watching a few, some of the seasons are still being developed. If you’ve not thought of checking out an Anime, well, just give it a try. If you’re a fan of the genre, let’s discuss in th comments, I’d like to hear from all of you.
