All You Need to Know About Universal Studios

Universal Pictures is one of the oldest movie production studios in the world. The American motion picture company is owned by Comcast through its wholly-owned subsidiary NBC Universal and it’s one of the Big Six mega film studios in Hollywood- Walt Disney, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Entertainment (also known as Columbia-Tristar Pictures) and of course, Universal Pictures.

Universal Pictures was founded by a group of young men who had a burning passion for film, these guys came together in 1912 to form a brand that still commands respect in the world. They are, German Carl Laemmle (pronounced “LEM-lee”), Mark Dintenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, Robert H. Cochrane, and Jules Brulatour. As a member of the Motion Picture Association of America, it’s over 100-year existence has seen the company churn out academy award-winning movies that have gone on to top the box office ratings and raking in Billions of dollars.

Universal Pictures is part of a larger family that offers world-class entertainment not just on-screen but off-screen as well. One of the founders of the company, Carl Laemmle opened his 250 acre Universal City ranch on March 15 1915; offering visitors the opportunity to tour the facility and watch movie production. At the time, admission was just 25 cents with a chicken boxed lunch available for a nickel extra. This marked the beginning of Universal’s theme Park and Studio Tours. Presently, the company has 4 themed parks located in (Orlando) Florida, Hollywood, Japan and Singapore.

With big-budget hit movies like Scarface, The Bourne Franchise, The Fast and Furious Franchise, Despicable Me Franchise, Pitch Perfect Franchise, Jurassic Park and World Franchise, The Mummy Franchise, Back to the Future Franchise, King Kong, Liar Liar, Bridesmaids, Bruce Almighty, Dracula and loads more, it’s evident that they don’t intend to stop entertaining the world anytime soon. Universal has also worked with some of the finest film practitioners in the world, ranching from actors to directors, cinematographers, sound engineers and many others. They have in several ways kick-started the careers of some of the big names in Hollywood today. Universal Pictures is indeed a major player in the global film industry.
